Project Overview
Yuba County places a high priority on investing in infrastructure that supports safer travel for all pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists alike while addressing one of the County’s most critical roadway safety concerns. The project aims to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists along a section of Forty Mile Road. The Forty Mile Road Shared-Use Path Project will construct a separated path for pedestrians and bicyclists between Rosser Road and the north entrance to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento.
Project Background
Prior to pursuing the grant, Yuba County completed its Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Plan, a comprehensive planning document that identifies opportunities to improve walking and biking infrastructure throughout the unincorporated areas of the County. Additionally, the County adopted a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP), which analyzed traffic safety issues across the roadway network and identified priority projects to reduce collisions. Yuba County has partnered with Sutter County and the cities of Marysville, Wheatland, Yuba City, and Live Oak to develop the Yuba-Sutter Regional Safety Action Plan through the Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The goal of the regional effort is to develop a coordinated strategy to move toward zero traffic deaths across the region. These efforts identified Forty Mile Road as a top safety priority.
Key Planned Improvements
- Construction of a separated shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists
- Segment lighting to improve nighttime visibility
- Barrier separation between the path and vehicle traffic
- Traffic signs and thermoplastic pavement markings
- Additional safety and design features as engineering review and funding allow
