VOTER REGISTRATION

To find out if you are currently registered to vote, please refer to  https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/ or call Yuba County Elections at (530) 749-7855.

You can visit https://registertovote.ca.gov/ to register or re-register online. Or you can pick up a paper Voter Registration Card at DMV, the library, or Post Office. You may also contact our office for a form to be mailed to you.

If you have legally changed your name, you must re-register so your voter record reflects your current name. The Secretary of State recommends that before you update your voter record with your current name, you first update your California driver license or identification card with DMV.

If you would like to vote at a polling place you must be registered at least 15 days before the election.  During the 14 days prior to and including Election Day you can conditionally register and cast a provisional ballot at the Yuba County Elections Office or a Yuba County poll site. To conditionally register, you must reside in Yuba County and must not have already turned in a voted ballot at another county/state elections office.

You must re-register to change your political party.

If you are currently registered and would like to cancel your registration, you can complete a written request and submit it to the Yuba County Elections Office at 915 8th Street, Suite 107, Marysville, CA  95901.  You can also fax the completed form to (530) 749-7854 or email it to [email protected]

The VoteCal statewide voter database maintains voter registration information for voters in all 58 California counties. This system performs duplicate checks across all counties, moves voter records from one county to another and ensures a voter does not vote more than once anywhere in the state.

In accordance with California law and regulation, voter records are updated based on information received from various agencies and voters themselves.

Yes. Call the Elections Department at (530) 749-7855.

You are not required to surrender your vote by mail ballot to vote at your polling place as long as your information can be verified at the polling place.

If your eligibility cannot be verified, you may have to vote a provisional ballot.

Yes. Precincts with fewer than 250 registered voters as of the 88th day before an election can be declared a "Mail Ballot Precinct". There are no polling places for mail ballot precincts.

You can check whether your Vote by Mail ballot has been received at https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/.

You can also sign up for ballottrax at https://california.ballottrax.net/voter/dashboard which allows you to track your ballot from when it is issued until it is received by Yuba County Elections.

If you submit a Vote by Mail ballot the signature on your envelope will be compared to your voter registration record. If the signature does not match the ballot cannot be counted.  The Elections Office will mail you a Signature Verification Statement and may also contact you by phone to let you know how to remedy the issue.

In many cases, signatures don't match due to a hurried signature or signature changes over time.  If your signature has changed, you may want to consider submitting a new voter registration to capture your new signature.

If you submit your ballot timely, but forget to sign the ballot envelope, you will be notified by mail and may also be contacted by phone.

You must complete and return an Unsigned Ballot Statement no later than two days before the election is certified.

ELECTION DAY

You can find your polling place by:

  2. Calling the Elections Office at (530) 749-7855.

Note: Close to an election, this information can be found at https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/.

You should vote at the polling place assigned to you. If you are registered to vote and go to a polling place other than the one assigned to you, your name will not appear on the Roster of Voters and you will be required to vote a provisional ballot.  Ballots at other polling places may not have all the contests you are eligible to vote.

Yes.  You are not required to vote on every contest on your ballot.
Votes for write-in candidates will be counted only if the person is a "certified" write-in candidate. A list of certified write-in candidates is available at every polling place.

Provisional ballots are issued when a person’s eligibility to vote cannot immediately be confirmed. After the election, staff will research whether you are registered and which ballot, if any, you were eligible to receive. If you are registered and confirmed eligible to vote, the votes you cast will count for all eligible contests.

By law, the activities undertaken during the official canvass include:

  • Processing and counting any valid Vote by Mail and provisional ballots not included in the semifinal official canvass reported election night.
  • An inspection of all materials and supplies returned by Poll Workers.
  • A reconciliation of the number of signatures on the roster with the number of ballots recorded on the ballot statement.
  • A reconciliation of the number of ballots counted, spoiled, canceled, or invalidated due to identifying marks or overvotes with the number of votes counted, including Vote by Mail and provisional ballots.
  • Reproducing any damaged ballots.
  • Conducting a hand count of the ballots cast in one (1) percent of the precincts chosen at random by the elections official. All races and contests must be included in the hand count.
